Fantastic what you have done to your Mazda pick-up. I'm so encouraged by the work you have completed, I'm currently getting a Mazda Familia 1400e ready for a world tour, Ithey are so simple and easy to live with, the ideal transport for a great journey, having completed four years going around the world by motorbike, I can't wait to get the pick-up finished and on the road, although I don't
it will be as smart as your! Sorry for writing english, but my Thai language is very limited!
Hi, I have many questions, but I don't want to hijack your thread, would you mind e-mailing me, grahamholden@mac.com
Hi,
History
I spent from 2008=2011 riding around the world, when I traveled through Thailand I met my a beautiful Thai lady who is now my wife (Jeab), she traveled through Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia with me on my world tour!
Plan.
A couple of weeks ago Jeab asked me if we could go traveling again, not just short trips, but a world tour, as she as always dreamed of seeing the world. So like all good Husbands I said yes, but we need to sell the house to finance putting her children through school. I thought about using a bike but don't like the responsibility of someone else's life on the back of the bike through many countries, having had two big crashes on my world tour last time, so as we already have the Mazda familia, who we named 'Malcolm'. I suggested taking Malcolm around the world, He's simple technology, so can repair most places in the world, he has character, he's small so cheaper for shipping and is fairly economical.
Malcolm the Mazda,
The truck has some rot/rust, so currently in Body shop being repaired, once back I need to overhaul the Engine, gearbox and go through everything to make sure he is as reliable as possible.
Q. I know you have change the engine and box on your pick-up, so maybe hard to say, I wasing about a differential gears in the axle to help with the economy, what have you fitted and from what vehicle?
Q. What shock absorber have you used? what are the best I will be able to find here in Thailand?
Q. Also you have fitted 14" wheels, has this made a difference to the economy, do they fit without rubbing on the bodywork, especially on the steering?
Q Where is a good place to source parts? Can you still get genuine Mazda parts? where do all you guys find all your parts? ( I live in Chiang Mai).
Q. Is it possible to get a reconditioned Gearbox? or is their a good place to find the parts to repair (i.e., gears).
This is just the start of my questions, thank you in advance for your help!
Graham
Greeting Graham. I'm impressed with your story and hope to be a supporting crew in your world tour journey. Myself have completed a half-cross country from Bangkok to Maehongson round trip as well but my car was broken and took 12 months to fixed the engine because of rare parts and i was refused to changed the engine (my car is 49 yrs old and original engine)
I'm now on my iphone replied to you and away to upcountry for a business trip. Hope to share some info to you. Cheers.
Regards,
Nav

Hi Nav,
I was amazed at the work you did on your rebuild, so much work! You must really love that pick-up, the only sad thing on the blog was the pictures toward the end don't show, I went through every page waiting to see the end result, but didn't see!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you fit 13" or 14" wheels? if so have they made a difference to the economy, do they catch on the bodywork? if so what offset are the wheels?

Hi Guys,
Here is a link to my facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/pages/Graha...83552801661885 I've loaded some picture on of Malcolm the Mazda in the process of being restored!
the pictures were uploaded to the public host and that's a shame they couldn't be reliable at all. Actually my wheels are 15" and doesn't have any problem on the bodywork on the back but a slightly a problem at the front when i make a sharp turn (which was once a while)
